Spring Is Around the Corner

 I saw a gaggle of geese flying north yesterday. It was a beautiful site. This is a sign that spring is on the way. If you are a gardener it is time to get the seeds planted indoors so they will be ready to plant outside in May. I am an avid gardener and the winter is causing "seasonal affective disorder" which is due to not being able to get out in the sun. Many people that live in the north experience this disorder and it really can cause depression. The way I counteract this depression is by planting my tomato and pepper seeds indoors.

They will be just right when the time for planting comes around. I love to watch things grow. I noticed flowers and new sprouts growing on my indoor houseplants as the daylight hours increase. Spring is the season of new life beginning. It also is a time to get your spring cleaning done so you can spend time outdoors when the winter fades away.

Everything is beautiful in the spring and I am looking forward to the rain showers and getting my hands in the dirt. March 17 to 21 are the days that I will be planting potatoes, green beans, radishes and peas in my garden. The plans for my garden are ready to go. I hope that the geese mean that spring will come early this year. Order your seeds and begin dreaming of the beautiful spring to come.

With the prices of food going up to save money we need to have a garden of fresh vegetables that you can just get from your garden. Seeds are cheap and the only cost to you is taking the time to plant them. If you enjoy planting as I do then it is not a chore but a joy! Try to plant you a small garden and I am sure you will be pleased with the great food that you grew with your own two hands.

Valentines Day 365 Days of the Year

Valentines Day is the day that LOVE is remembered. Yet we all know that love should be remembered for 365 days of the year. As a child you receive your first Valentine card by your classmates. This is when you learn who your friends are in grade school anyway.

What is LOVE? First there is love of your parents and siblings. When you are around 12 or 13 you begin to notice the opposite sex. Valentines Day takes on a whole new meaning. When you fall in love then another type of love develops. Marriage adds another kind of love as it involves your vows of loving each other in sickness and in health, til death do us part.

After being married at age 16 and my husband was 17 in the year of 1976 which means we have loved each other for 34 years we listened to these words and stayed true to them. I feel I am an expert on staying happily married and love at this stage is even more intense than I ever imagined it could be. In 34 years we have survived many good times and bad times. The point here is we stuck together and love is what it took.

Today Valentines Day is just another day as we love each other 365 days a year. For all you newly married couples use Valentines Day to remember that love develops and changes all your life but true love can only be experienced if you stay with the one you love. You will not be disappointed that you did. Today to find marriages that last is a very rare thing and when you see a couple that has been married as long as we have or longer pay heed as this is the ultimate love and cannot be experienced until you have stayed with one person through good and bad times.

Marriage is always a gamble but I can say from experience that once you reach this type of LOVE you will understand what LOVE truly is. Happy Valentines Day is just to remember that you need to say I LOVE YOU everyday of the year. Give someone a special gift if you have a hard time with the words "I Love You" so the other person knows you care. Both words and a gift are great too!

Technology-Can You Live Without It?

There were more cell phones bought last year than any other electronic item. I can't handle it when my remote for my television stops working. It is a shame but I have come to rely on electronics and technology to make life easier. Kindle is a nifty little item to have at your disposal.

We take electricity for granted. I remember the last ice storm when we had no electricity for 7 days. Nothing worked and I couldn't imagine life without it. I barely remember the time when we had party lines. Every busy body neighbor that had nothing better to do listened to your personal phone calls. Soon as you hung up you could not get on the phone as they were busy gossiping about everything they had heard for the day. Am I glad those days are over.

I have never sent a text on my cell phone and my friends laugh as they text without looking. Trying to keep up with the changing technology is very difficult. I remember mentioning 8-track tapes and my nephew which is only 18 years younger than me said "what is that". 8-track tapes were quickly replaced by cassette tapes and now DVD's. Just wait and soon you will be remembering some type of technology that has came and went so rapidly that is now lost forever.
